THIS IS ME COLLAGE

Materials:

                    construction paper
                    scissors
                    glue
                    magazines

 Introduction:

This lesson should follow some previous lessons about the self. Remind children about some of the things they have learned about themselves and let them share their thoughts with each other.

Objective/Purpose:

Child will identify and express characteristics about themselves in a collage.

Procedure:

1.      Encourage children to share something about themselves.

Questions:  What is your favorite food? Toy? Color? Animal?

What do you like to do best?

2.      Explain to children that they will be asking a collage all about themselves. Show examples, such as telling them something you like and then finding it in a magazine. Demonstrate how to cut (or tear) the picture out and glue it on to your collage.

3.      Have children look through magazines and cut or tear out items they would like to include in their collage. Have them talk about their selections as they do this.

4.      Have children share their collage in-group. Sharing allows deeper internalization of the concepts the children have learned about themselves, while fostering pride and tolerance/appreciation for differences in others.
