Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is the most common form of teratogens (nongentic,
extraneous substances causing malformation in developing fetus) today.
The most severe effects on the fetus from alcohol use tend to occur
during the first trimester of pregnancy, often before a mother can
even know that she is pregnant.
Symptoms include:
- mild mental retardation
- pre or postnatal growth deficiency
- craniofacial anomalies
- joint anomalies
- heart murmers
