Attachment Disorders
This course is based on my book Attachment Disorders: Treatment
Strategies for Traumatized Children. I have studied and treated
attachment disorders and attachment related issues since the early
1980s.
This course was designed for:
-
parents,
-
foster parents,
-
adoptive parents,
-
child care providers,
-
educators, and
-
professionals working with children identified as having attachment
disorders or Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD).
Traditional behavior management strategies typically do not work with
children with attachment disorders. Learn what does work, and why these
children behave as they do. You can work at your own pace, retake
quizzes to achieve your desired grade, earn certification or CEU credit
for your work, and access the instructor directly for your personal
questions or problems working with children with attachment disorders.
What does attachment disorder look like? There are many types of
attachment disorder, but here are a few symptoms. The child:
-
Is overly affectionate to strangers or very distant
-
Has difficulty making eye contact
-
Is superficially charming
-
Is aggressive, even when not provoked
-
Does not tolerate authority or rules
-
Has no remorse or concern for others
-
Is extremely hyperactive or hypervigilant
-
Has a high tolerance for pain
Find out more about attachment disorder symptoms and how to handle them
through this course.

Course Requirements
|
| You need not have
any formal education above and beyond high school to take this course.
The materials are written in easy to understand format.
The course consists of:
- 1. 6 easy to understand lessons.
- 2. Assignments based on your readings.
- 3. Message Boards where you can discuss
your questions or work with others.
- 4. Short quizzes (True/False, Multiple
Choice) that you can retake to get the grade you want.
This course is graded and you can earn
certificates for taking the course. Many students find this useful as
they can submit the certificates as verification for taking the course
for career related requirements. Other students simply like having a
written document summarizing their achievement.
By completing all the course requirements, you
can earn a Certificate of Attendance and/or merit. For achieving an A in
the course (90% or higher), you are eligible for a Certificate of
Academic Achievement. These will be automatically sent to you when you
reach these goals.
In addition, you may earn a certificate for a
lesser grade, and letters of recommendation are available from the
professor if you desire, to use for the pursuit of a career in a related
field.
The course is ongoing, so you may take as
little or as much time as you like to complete the readings and
assignments. Some students go through the course very quickly, while
others take weeks to complete their work. |
